Description
The Rye & District Association was founded in 1980 as the Rye & Winchelsea Centre and adopted its new name in 2010. We have an active membership drawn from Rye and the surrounding area.
Our Association is a friendly social group with membership open to all.
Our objectives are to provide interesting and enjoyable activities and events for our members whilst raising funds for the support of the National Trust.
During the winter and spring, we have a monthly series of talks, generally on a Thursday afternoon at 2.00 pm and held at Brede Village Hall. We make a small charge to help cover costs and refreshments after the talk, £5 for members, £10 for visitors.
During the summer we also arrange outings to places of interest including National Trust properties and other houses and gardens. When coach travel is involved we usually have pick-up points at Rye Station, Peasmarsh (Farleys Way), Northiam (opposite the car park), and sometimes Tenterden (Town Hall), depending on the route.
Also, we have a monthly walking group which meets at 10.00 am at the chosen venue. Walks are of varying distance and terrain, typically six miles or so, followed by a long lunch at a suitable inn!
Additionally there are social events such as Theatre outings, Golf tournament, Quiz Nights, Spring Lunch, Christmas Parties, and an Annual Meet and Greet for new and existing members.
