The Bohemia Walled Garden Association is restoring a neglected Victorian garden in Summerfields Wood and aims to encourage residents in the Hastings/ St.Leonards area to become actively involved in growing some of their own food. The site contains plots for individual gardeners and areas for educational use.
In addition there are grassed areas for social and cultural events. The walled garden is usually open to the general public every Wednesday and Sunday mornings from 10 until 12 during the growing season (March to November). Outside of these months and particularly if weather is bad (like snow or rain), the garden may be closed.
To become a member (free), simply visit our website and click on "Get Involved". The BWGA gets its name from the Bohemia Farmhouse, which was later bought by Wastel Brisco.
The walled garden is of historic value, along with the nearby Victorian ice house and mock-Roman bath. As a part of its activities as well as getting parts of the wall reinstated (which were completed in 2018), it aims to increase awareness of the history of the area.
Details of periodic events appear on the BWGA website, in the local paper and on social media. For those visiting the garden there is a fully accessible eco toilet.
