Description
The Financial Support Line for Victims of Domestic Abuse is run by Money Advice Plus and is part of our partnership work with Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA)
- Money Advice Plus provides dedicated support to victim-survivors of domestic abuse with their money worries to create the opportunity to regain financial control and economic stability.
- Surviving Economic Abuse is the only UK charity dedicated to raising awareness of economic abuse and transforming responses to it.
“Economic abuse involves behaviours (restriction, exploitation and sabotage)that interfere with a partner’s ability to acquire, use and maintain economic resources. In the context of domestic abuse, it commonly takes place alongside physical, sexual and psychological abuse”.
The Financial Support Line for Victims of Domestic Abuse is run by Money Advice Plus and is part of our partnership work with Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA). It offers specialist advice to anyone experiencing domestic abuse who is in financial difficulty. We have two services – The Financial Support Line and The Casework Service. The Financial Support Line; provides one-off support and guidance to victims of domestic and economic abuse who are struggling to manage their money.
The Financial Support Line; provides a safe space for the victim-survivor to discuss their financial situation and allow them to prioritise issues and move forward with economic safety. While advisers on the Line cannot help with everything, they can give strategies for dealing with debt, including coerced debt, discuss welfare benefit issues, support in developing a budget, look at problems being experienced with utility companies and other bills, talk through how to safely open a new bank account or work through problems being experienced with banking, and in some cases, signpost or refer to apply for small grants if there is severe financial hardship.
To contact the Financial Support line for advice and guidance call our freephone number 08081968845 between 9am–5pm Monday to Friday.
The Casework Service; is a nationwide service supporting victim-survivors who are struggling with their money worries. The service offers in-depth, long-term tailored money and debt advice and support through an economic safety lens. We can provide advice and support in regards to debt options/ solutions and income maximisation, this can include, where applicable, supporting with applying for benefits, grant applications and applying for utility discounts.
You (or your client) may be eligible for the Financial Support Line Casework Service if you:
- have debt and require debt advice and
- have experienced or are experiencing domestic or economic abuse
You can also refer yourself by calling the Financial Support Line on 08081968845 Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm and telling them you are eligible for referral to the casework service. An adviser will talk through how they think we can best support you.
