BHT Advice is a specialist legal housing advice service with three offices in Sussex. Our Eastbourne office covers the Eastbourne, Wealden and Lewes areas.
We provide free advice to people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. This includes people in the following situations:
Are currently homeless, including sofa-surfing.
Rent a property but have been given a notice by your landlord to end the tenancy.
Have been notified of possession proceedings at court.
Are being threatened with an illegal eviction.
Have been told you cannot succeed to a tenancy and therefore are threatened with homelessness.
Have got into serious rent arrears and are at risk of losing your tenancy.
Are living in temporary accommodation.
Are living in a property with serious disrepair which is affecting your health.
Have been notified of a rent increase which will make your accommodation unaffordable and put you at risk of losing your tenancy.
Have a mortgage and your lender has begun possession proceedings at court.
We have a contract with the Legal Aid Agency so if people are eligible for advice under Legal Aid, we will provide advice under this scheme. If people are not eligible under Legal Aid we are usually able to still advise using funding we receive from other sources.
