Working together to end homelessness in Hastings & Rother
Emmaus gives people the opportunity to gain stability in their lives and find a way to move on from homelessness by giving them a home for as long as they need it.
Emmaus companions, the name we give to residents, are provided with rent-free accommodation (including council tax, TV licences and utilities), food, clothing and a small weekly allowance. In return, they volunteer full-time in the community superstore; collecting, renovating and reselling donated goods.
This work supports the community financially and enables companions to develop skills, discover new talents and rebuild their self-respect.
Living on site in our purpose built accommodation block, companions are expected to take an active part in community life, making decisions about the business and the community by contributing to regular meetings and discussions.
All staff are on hand to help with any problems or issues and will encourage companions to grow and develop through tailored support plans.
