Making it Happen is a 5.5 year Programme funded by East Sussex County Council. It began in Oct 2019 and will run to March 2025.
Five local organisations are working in partnership to deliver the programme. The partnership is led by Sussex Community Development Association, who are working with 3VA, Action in Rural Sussex, Hastings Voluntary Action and Rother Voluntary Action.
We work with residents in East Sussex who want to build on the positive things that exist in their neighbourhood. A key principle of the approach is to work with people rather than do ‘to’ or ‘for’ them.
Community Development Workers work with people to connect them with the positive things already happening. A key principle is to not do for individuals and communities what they can do for themselves.
By encouraging people to discover the positive things that already exist in the neighbourhood where they live, a fuller picture of a whole community is built that doesn’t just focus on problems and needs. It creates a positive platform from which to build stronger, healthier and happier communities.
Making it Happen Community Development Workers can explore with anyone who lives in East Sussex their ideas for making a positive change in their neighbourhood. But there are certain areas where they are working alongside residents and can provide dedicated time and support.
