Description
EASTBOURNE AND DISTRICT SAMARITANS are offering a FREE, fun and friendly workshop on the art of good listening.
Contact us to book an event for your group or organisation.
Everyone has the potential to make a great deal of difference to someone else’s life simply by being able to listen. It’s the easiest and most natural way to offer support to another person and doesn’t require any special skills, resources or equipment. In the field of mental health, recent research shows that in many situations an ordinary person who is able to listen with empathy can be just as effective as a trained professional.
In this session you will find out what it means to be a listening volunteer for the Samaritans and learn some of the skills which you can use in everyday conversations with colleagues, family and friends; in fact these skills are invaluable for any situation where you find yourself talking to others since the key to good communication is connection.
As part of our interactive event we will provide you with tips on good listening and point out some of the easy mistakes we all make.
The workshop is designed to provide an in depth experience and we recommend between 6-14 participants. It’s also important to ensure they have dedicated time of around 90 – 120 minutes to learn the basics of good listening. There will be a chance to put these skills into practice, guided by two of our Samaritan volunteers.
The workshop is a free, fun and friendly opportunity to enable as many people as possible to benefit from the art of good listening.
