The Down Syndrome Development Trust (DSDT) is an innovative charity that exists to improve the lives of people with Down syndrome (DS) both in Sussex and nationwide. We offer a range of support services and specialist interventions for children and young people with DS and, during over 10 years of operation, we have become an established charity specialising in DS development and support.
The main aim of DSDT is to support the development of our children's skills by providing them with tailor-made opportunities to grow and thrive. We achieve this through various ways such as sports, music, occupational therapy, reading, speech & communication skills, plus social support groups for children, training for parents, carers and teachers and by providing vital information and advice.
Our Alternative Provision based on the University of Sussex campus is for young people aged 16-25 who have Down syndrome and/or other learning differences, EHCPs and live in Sussex. Here, our young people take part in a variety of activities including foundation learning, work experience, life skills and enrichment, all in an inclusive university environment. Overall our purpose is to greatly improve outcomes for people with DS, creating social changes, raising standards of expectation and true inclusion in society.
