Sussex has a WellChild Nurse – me, Angela Little. WellChild is a national charity that provides support to families who have a young person with complex needs. Their main aim is to promote the ethos that children are better cared for at home with the right support around them.
No two WellChild nurses’ roles are the same and we have a nursing network that we can approach if we need support on a certain topic.
My role encompasses children and young people under 18 with complex needs who don’t meet the criteria for continuing care, a team that I also have close links with. This can involve helping professionals with queries about local services, and aiding families who may not have all the services they need to support their child.
It can be as simple as signposting to an appropriate service across Sussex to organising multi-disciplinary meetings when a larger issue arises and lots of things in between. I am happy to chat if you are not sure whether I can help or not.
Anyone can refer to me: the young person, social workers, family members, doctors etc. I have a referral form with consent as I may need to obtain and share clinical information.
