Description
Act On It provides workshops and accredited courses for young people.
We specialise in supporting out of school young people.
We use a drama-based approached that is inclusive and suitable for those with or without any previous drama experience.
We Act On It and use drama because it's engaging and fun, builds confidence and communication skills - and improves the well-being of the people that take part in our work. Our mission is to level the playing field and close the educational gap that marginalised young people face. We accredit participants with meaningful qualifications.
We currently run regular informal drop-in online ‘youth theatre’ sessions for out of school or home educated young people impacted by anxiety and/or poor mental health. Our Youth Focus Group tell us the sessions provide a safe space to meet ‘people like me’.
We run short projects matched to the issues that our Focus Group identify. These projects work towards creating resources that other young people can use. Our participants co-create these with us. We promote visibility and a voice. Our ‘Your Best Friend’ project created a series of short YouTube films and linked activities that explore toxic relationships and red flags. We self-published an accompanying book for teachers and youth workers. Working in this way enables us to create more inclusive resources that show young people’s real lives and celebrate our participants’ achievements.
We train others to use our methods and resources. Paul Hamlyn Foundation currently funds work with alternative provision and pupil referral units to do this.
We specialise in using Pearson Project Qualifications to accredit marginalised young people and are currently supporting other third sector organisation to do this for their inclusion programmes.
