We are a therapeutic service for children, young people and a support service to families that have experienced Abuse and Trauma. We use the definition of trauma as, 'Trauma is the response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms an individuals ability to cope, causes feelings of helplessness, diminishes their sense of self and their ability to feel the full range of emotions and experiences'.
We provide a child centres practice, with our therapeutic approach grounded in the use of creative therapeutic techniques, ie: sand tray, painting, play, puppets, storytelling and games to support a child or young person find their way to communicate and tell their story. We also use Equine Assisted Therapy/Learning, CATT (Children's Accelerated Trauma Technique) and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).
We run workshops during the school holidays and licensed to deliver 'Just Say WHOA to Bullying' Equine programme in schools and to other groups working with children ie: Brownies, Scouts. Butterflies recognises the importance of working with 'the family and other professionals' when working with a child or young person and at times may be part of a Multidisciplinary Team working together for the well being of the child/young person and their family.
