Description
Everyone depends on water every day.
Without water, life can’t flow smoothly. At Ofwat, we’re working to improve life through water: keeping water flowing, bills affordable and helping to ensure the health of our rivers and waterways.
We’re here to make sure water companies provide the best service to customers and communities, improve the environment, and make sure our water supplies are secure for future generations.
There are some big challenges threatening the water we rely on. Climate change is causing extreme weather and flooding, threatening our water supply. Some of our rivers and other waterways are polluted and losing wildlife. Meanwhile, population growth, lifestyle changes and an increased demand for housing means that water usage is increasing.
Water companies need to play their part, and we’re pushing them to do more.
We’re working to ensure the water sector meets these challenges by providing sustainable, reliable and affordable water and wastewater services for everyone, both now and in the future.
There are also some big opportunities for water companies to improve lives and the natural world.
We’re driving companies to perform better and provide greater public value, delivering more for customers, society and the environment, both now and in the longer term.
By setting the price and service package for water companies, we ensure they balance the needs of their customers and the environment together with the need to finance the delivery of water and wastewater services.
We can’t do this alone. We work with governments, other regulators, water companies, communities and business to achieve the best possible outcome for water customers and meet future challenges.
It’s time to act together to improve life through water.
